Two innovative female saxophonists join each other in Alto For Two: the Dutch Kika Sprangers and Irene Reig from Barcelona. Both women bring their compositions to this Dutch-Catalan co-production. In this way, their different artistic vision offer a varied sound palette, played at InJazz 2023 by a quintet with drums, double bass and keys.
Kika Sprangers from Nijmegen composes sparkling phrases and a velvety sound. In her performances she is open for her surroundings and tries to find magical moments when everything comes together – music, musicians and audience. She leads her own quintet and has released two albums in 2021: one with adventurous classical music ensemble Pynarello and the other with cellist Jörg Brinkmann and pianist Martin Fondse, now Composer Laureate of the Netherlands.
Irene Reig has established herself as a successful saxophonist and composer on the European jazz scene. She leads various groups including The Bop Collective. She has released three albums, one of them featuring John Swana, one of the world’s most renowned trumped players.
