artist, vocalist, composer
Two times Grammy nominated Portuguese vocalist/composer Maria Mendes has been traveling a world of musical expression. With Wayne Shorter’s blessings, Mendes premiered his contemporary jazz piece “Gaia” in Germany early 2022. Her song “Inverso,” featuring Anat Cohen, was part of the soundtrack of the Emmy-winning soap opera “Ouro Verde”.
The vocalist has performed at the Blue Note Jazz Club NYC; Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals and released four solo albums, most recently blending Jazz and Fado on the acclaimed live album “Saudade, Colour of Love” featuring the Metropole Orkest and John Beasley. Mendes’ wealth of influences and experiences help make up what DownBeat magazine hailed “a jazz singer of the highest order”.
- I am looking to collaborate as guest with orchestras and big bands worldwide for 2024-2025 for the 2x Grammy nominated project that blends modern creative Jazz with Fado. 10 songs fully orchestrated for Big Band as well for chamber orchestra are available. I am looking for music universities interested on having me as a guest teacher with my masterclass on “The power of your phrasing: how to be unique among others”
