Nani Vazana
Vocalist, Trombonist & Composer
With a ship’s-horn power voice & irresistible stage presence, Nani is the The last Mohican of EU Ladino composers. Her raw Flamenco vocals, soft trombone & heartbreaking piano melodies capture the sounds of the marketplace & propel the almost extinct Sephardic culture into the 21st century. With her trio, the fiery sound of Mariachi guitar & sweeping Arabic percussion she shares stories on learning Ladino in hiding with as her father forbade her to speak it at home. Nani was honoured with the “living relic” honours by the Library of Congress, played at the Kennedy Center and showcased at Folk Alliance & is invited to play at SXSW 2025. Nani’s album Ke Haber ranked #13 on World Music Chart Europe 2022.
- This is my 11th Jazzahead, I started visiting in 2012 and only skipped the digital edition during covid. I feel that it’s essential to build a community in the music industry, especially in the jazz scene, as we are here to strengthen each other. In 2024-2025 I already have 37 shows booked, as well as an upcoming showcase at SXSW. Looking to connect with agents, presenters and publishers worldwide.
