Philipp Rüttgers
pianist, composer, improviser
Philipp Rüttgers of German origin based in Amsterdam, is an outstanding pianist, composer, and improviser. Over the last 15 years, he has released his music with Dutch-based Labels Zennez Records and Just Listen Records and recorded as a sidemen in various projects based in Holland and Germany. His work is supported by the Dutch Fondspodium Kunsten, Buma Stemra and Sena. In 2018, he received a composition assignment from the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival (NL) where he translated the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen into contemporary music and visual performance. His latest release March 2024 is his acoustic Trio “Etudes of Shapes and Forms” together with internationally acclaimed drummer Sun-Mi Hong (KR) and Thomas Pol (NL) on the bass. Their release shows in March were held in the Netherlands at the Bimhuis Amsterdam and International Transition Festival in Utrecht. Philipp is also a teacher at the ArtEZ Conservatory Arnhem (NL)
